Feed An Orphan
Every year, over 25 orphanages (home to 5000 almajiri or, in English, orphans) close down due to a lack of basic amenities like food and proper shelter. In 2020, GRAB Foundation adopted one of these orphanages: Angwan-Zumra, located in Suleja, Nigeria. Our efforts this far have helped build 10 rooms to help house our kids, a 4,000-liter water system to provide drinkable water, 200 beds and pillows, and the recent installation of a dining cafeteria.
Right now, we are looking for sponsors and supporters to help keep our cafeteria open. Our kids have gone from eating rice once every two days to eating twice a day. We know this is not ideal, but to our kids, it is the difference between happiness and extreme hunger.
By choosing to become a sponsor, you become part of a growing community of humanitarians choosing to make a difference and be a movement for change. You also become part of our biweekly newsletter that features the first-hand experiences of our orphans allowing our sponsors to get to know our kids closely.
With the outstanding value of the Dollar to Naira in the exchange currency market, here are some amazing numbers to show you how your small donations can go a long way:
- One dollar is equivalent to 700 Nigerian Naira.
- It costs $8,000 per quarter to feed our orphans twice every day.
- It costs about $2,667 per month to feed our 210 orphans.
- That is $12.70 to feed one kid for a month.
- A single meal costs only 22 cents.
Crazy, right?
According to reliable data backed by Unicef, the world currently has 10 times the food it needs to eradicate hunger forever. Yet, 2/3 of the world’s population live in extreme hunger. It has never been a question of resources but our resourcefulness.
Our goal at GRAB Foundation is to help make every dollar count. All of your donations are tax write-offs as GRAB Foundation is 501(C)3 eligible.
